Specimen Observations
Globba schomburkgii, AKA Yellow Dancing Girls, is an enchanting ginger. The golden, yellow, bracts and flowers rain down in a pendulous inflorescence. The blooms last many weeks. It forms bulbils and plantlets which produce new plants.
Common Name: Dancing Lady
Date Acquired: 2001-06-07
Culture:
In 2003 Globba schomburgkii was planted in bed which received direct sun between 2 and 5 pm in the afternoon. It was doing fine until August when temperatures broke 100°f. At that point the plant began showing real damage despite the abundant watering. I used a shade cloth for the rest of the season and schomburkii recovered. Needles to say, this plant will have a new home in 2004.
Globba schomburgkii is in a raised bed and is watered daily via drip irrigation.
