Curcuma alismatifolia

Specimen Observations

It’s no wonder that Curcuma alismatifolia is called the Siam tulip. It is a medium sized plant with an incredible show stopping inflorescence. This is perhaps the ginger at the heart of why I started to collect these tropicals. When all other blooming plants failed in the heat and humidity of my garden, this and many other gingers thrived.

Common Name: Siam Tulip

Date Acquired: 2001-06

Culture:

The first year I had Curcuma alismatifolia, it bloomed marvelously. Unfortunately the inflorescence was top heavy and they kept flopping over. It was not in full sun that year. I was advised that alismatifolia needed to be in full sun or it would not perform well. Now that they are in full sun and in well draining soil, they attract the most attention in garden. All my visitors ask about them. Curcuma alismatifolia is watered every day on timed irrigation.

Zone: 8

Size: 30"

Color: Pink
